Time Out for Cooking!

C is for Cooking...

Malachy and I had Veteran’s Day off, so Shien said, “Why don’t you guys cook together?” πŸ˜‰ Shien had evening class, so it was just me and Malachy. We typically order out, but we decided on taking on the adventure.

I had bought this book for Malachy and Shien, and on the first night, he wanted to read it cover to cover for bedtime! A few mornings he would study it, and he would ask if they could make things together. They made a couple of things from it, and now, it was my turn! πŸ˜‰

So, I decided that we were going to make 3 dishes together: Grover’s Chinese Meatballs with Sesame Rice, Big Bird’s Sesame Green Beans, and Cookie Monster’s “Me-Stuffed” Potatoes. Malachy was really good about going ingredient shopping with me.Β  Shien actually toasted sesame seeds for me the evening before, so I didn’t have to go buy them.

It took us a few stores to find Sesame Oil, but in the end, we got everything. Instead of cooking the bacon from scratch, because I didn’t want to make a big mess, I ordered a side from Cafe Petisco. πŸ˜‰ Everything else, Malachy and I made together.Β  Of course, it was mostly me trying to cook all three things at once, but in the end, it was quite a success. I went off script a little when baking potatoes.Β  I actually went on to and they were perfect!Β  After baking them, I had to cut the top off each one, scrape out the potatoes and restuff them!Β  We even had my brother-in-law and his fiancee come over, and they were impressed. πŸ˜‰

The other night, I was so inspired, I decided to surprise Shien with another dinner. It feels good to be able to prepare something for her every once in a blue moon, and it really really makes me appreciate all the cooking she has done for me and Malachy. Our tummies are so blessed! πŸ˜‰

Time Out for Nurture Shock!

Nurture Shock

This past weekend, I had the chance to read Nurture Shock. I came upon it because Chris from Book Dads sent out an e-mail to the Book Dads contributors to see if anyone had read or was interested in writing a review about it. I went right to Amazon, read the summary and some comments, and decided to buy it right away. So glad I did! For me, this book showed how much Nurture Matters and what an awesome responsibility we have as parents and/or teachers, because what we do or say or don’t do or don’t say can have such an impact on the lives of our children.Β  I was able to finish it over the weekend and then wrote my second book review for Book Dads! πŸ™‚

This morning, I noticed that someone had commented on my review. I felt like I needed to respond and hoped that person would get the chance to read my response. Then tonight, I received another comment… from one of the co-authors!!! How COOL was that? πŸ˜‰ SO COOL! This is the kind of experience I wish for our students to have in school. To make contributions to online communities and to have their voices heard. It’s such an awesome feeling! πŸ˜‰
