In this video, Malachy requested that I put it on TimeOutDad, so how could I refuse? 😉 Shien has exposed him to so many delicious meals and varieties of food. One of the consequences, however, is that he will then have cravings or request things on the fly all the time. Some mornings, when we don’t have what he wants, he’ll have a mini-breakdown or throw a tantrum because Shien can’t make what he wants. Sometimes it’s because she doesn’t have the time to prepare what he wants or because we simply don’t have what he wants readily available. Just yesterday, I heard him asking Shien for cheese curds! I don’t even know what that is! (Actually Shien just told me that he’s been asking for it for a couple of weeks, now.) When did he last have it? He had it in the Fall! His memory is UNBELIEVABLE!
I came home today and no one was home. Where did they go? Guess? I called Shien up and they were out buying cheese curds! Ai ya! 😉 Shien told me the guy selling the cheese said it was nice to see someone with so much enthusiasm about cheese. Malachy was so excited and jumping for joy for cheese curds!
I can’t wait for him to be able to cook on his own! 😉 Mommy and Daddy can wake up one day to Malachy’s creations… YUMMY! 🙂
This past week, Mommy went to a “food” conference for 2 days, so I got to take Malachy to school for two mornings. It was really cool. We were the first ones there in the morning, and we had some dim sum. Shien had let me know how there was a group of them who ate together and shared their food together each morning, so I was able to partake in that. Malachy shared his dim sum and others shared their McDonald’s pancakes, macaroni soup, and Gatorade. The next day, I bought even more dim sum for everyone, and it was just nice that everyone was with their child starting off the day, eating and sharing with each other. It would have been even nicer if it was for longer than 15-20 minutes…
Watching Jamie Oliver’s, Food Revolution, made me think. Why is it that we only eat one meal together with our kids, if even? How different things could be if we got to eat together more with friends and family?
I remember one Chinese New Year, where my sister and I got to go home for lunch on a school day. That was special. Eating lunch with the whole family on a school day. Maybe we’d all eat healthier if we all got to eat together more and break bread… 😉
What are Malachy’s favorite two words, when waking up, besides “Good Morning?”
This morning, not only did he say he was hungry, but he said his whole body was empty. We read him a children’s book on the digestive system. (Yes, they do have children’s books on that now! 😉 ) This morning, as I was barely awake, he was calling out, “Daddy, I’m hungry. My whole body is empty. I have nothing in my esophagus!” I don’t think I learned about the esophagus until HIGH SCHOOL! Unbelievable! 😉
Sometimes, he wakes up with “food visions”. 🙂 The other morning, he was telling me about his latest dessert vision. My dad had brought some Turkey Hill vanilla and chocolate ice cream along with some premium lemon and cherry ice, which he had for the first time the night before. YUMMY! So, he was telling me how he pictured a spoonful of vanilla ice cream on one side next to some ice on the other side, topped with some M&Ms, and a Pizzelle on top, AND it had to be in his ice cream bowl. We’ve made similar things for him, but he owned this one. So, what did we do? On this one, Mommy made his wish came true! There’s nothing like the excitement of having a wish come true, is there? 😉
because Dads need to take time out to STOP and THINK…
